How to make MZF/MZT from tape

Post by halvork »

Hi.

I have no clue why I bought a MZ-700 many years ago. It came without any software and was soon abandoned in my garage. Now I am rebuilding my home office and was going to reserve 1/3 of the space to my old 8bit computers when I found this Sharp-thing. Difference this time was that I found this site on the web. I started reading and the Mz-700 grew on me. I downloaded some MZFs and loaded up the computer using a bluetooth cassette adapter and my iPhone (and mzf2waw).
Now I love this computer and have bought some old software on casette online. Some of this software I can't find as MZF and I feel I should make MZFs of this software and make it available for others. But I can't seem to find a tool for making a MZF/MZT.
How do you guys do that?

Should I make a .wav from the cassette first? Or how else can I use the cassette as input to the PC program?

For transferring to laptop I use the software Audacity on my laptop and I have a hi-fi tape deck with a USB soundcard to make the WAV. Then MZFStudio can read the WAV and convert to MZF. If it won't read on the first go I will then split the WAV into left and right channels and try to get MZFStudio to read one of those. Usually one of these methods works.

Wow! So not quite straight forward then...
Firstly I have to buy a cassette player. Next is getting the sound into a computer. I’m not even sure I have an audio input '
I will see what I come up with.

Thanks for your help and answers anyway. :D
