Asteroids - did I see it back in 1980?

Post by Atomtan »

Hi, as a newbie the MZ80k was my first 'access' to a home computer back in late 1980, a machine so far away from what my family could afford. I was in awe of it, and probably still am. Fast forward to now, I bought a faulty 80k and then came across a faulty 80a at a house clearance place. The 80a was fixed first and has somehow found its way into my affections, and it sits pride of place on my cabinet at the moment.

So, to my point. I am 99% certain that back on one of my visits to the 80k way back then, my mate showed me Space Invaders and I am sure Asteroids. Now age may prove to have failed me, but I recall the opening screen where the the jumbled word of Asteroids was reorganised and then it plays a decent version of the game itself (despite the Blakes 7 keyboard). I can find no reference to this anywhere now.....is it a figment of my imagination? To get a copy of that game (if it existed) would be a 40 year time travel trip for me...Thanks for reading.

Yep. It existed for the K (and possibly may work on the A if the keyboard routines are using the Monitor subroutines and not proper keyboard scanning). I think I have a copy of Asteroids somewhere. If I don't, I know somebody who definitely does.
