backing up MZ-80 Basic disk

Post by arnuphis »

Hello everyone. What is the easiest way to backup a system floppy to another disk? I tried Utility but it tells me 'Cannot Copy'. Does anyone have access to a good disk image I can use my my gotek to make backups to real floppies with?

Thanks!

Have you tried SUCOPY?

First SUCOPY is machine dependant with versions for the MZ 80K, 80A, 80B and mz700 BASIC disks, and in both 70 track and 80 track versions.
SUCOPY can format and is a disk copier (track copier 16 x 128 (1-16) sectors (MZ80K) and 16x 256 (1-16) sectors MZ80A, B, MZ700).
I can not copy CP/M disks which have skewed sector ordering +different sector ID + mixed sector sizes.
The 6.88 Kb version supplied by mz-80a is for the MZ80A.
If it cannot copy a Basic Disk then the disk is bad.
SUCOPY does have a disk to tape (#B) and tape to disk (#C) function but for DD disks a 120C tape is required.
In later version of the DD disk versions these funcions were removed to make room for a 70/80 switchable version.

You can convert MZF files to WAV files for audio transfer using the link-

Not tried it myself as I have a Arduino 2560 high speed down loader connected direct to the tape port.

Could you save sucopy on a tape to test it ?

I have no Arduino and neither -k- nor -a- have tape ports outbound

If you use a cheap Car Radio Cassette Adapter you can play WAV files direct from PC to your MZ.
See image this one is from Amazon and costs £3.99 but there are cheaper units

Thanks i will try. This item here costs 12€ ....
Hope the tape unit will close with the cable in it
But still i hope that someone could send a floppy with tools
I copied the utility 2.0 from my -k- to a tape but my -a- does not execute this file.
The filing cmd tool does not copy file to discs either ... this really sucks

I use the same car tape adapter and it works well with my MZ-80A. I have, however, made it so that I can remove the lid of the tape deck on my A any time I want so that the adapter can be used without the cable getting shut in the lid. I use MZF Studio to convert between MZF / MZT / WAV and the WAVs it produces always seem to work in my A.
